Prepare garlic broth against aphids: recipe

Garlic broth is a popular home remedy for aphids in the garden. Because it is effective and purely biological. The article explains how the brew is ideally prepared, what the recipe looks like and when the home remedy can be used.

Ingredients needed

  • 1 liter of water
  • 75 g fresh garlic
Tip: Ideally, you should put on gloves for the production, otherwise your fingers will smell of garlic for a long time afterwards. Not everyone likes that.

Make garlic broth

The brew is easy to make. The working time is about five minutes. Then there is the waiting time before the biological pesticide can be used:

  • Roughly chop the garlic cloves
  • so that the oils can escape from the interfaces
  • boil in the prepared water
  • then leave covered
  • about 10 to 15 minutes
  • pass through a sieve
  • Leave for 24 hours

After that, the garlic broth can be diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 10 and put in a spray bottle and the infestation on the plants can be sprayed. It should be sprayed directly on the affected areas but also on the soil all around. This is repeated over several days until there are no more aphids to be seen.

Note: If you want to protect your plants from aphids and other pests, it is often sufficient to spread garlic cloves over the bed or, alternatively, to plant a few garlic plants in a mixed culture between the plants to be protected.

possible uses

Garlic stock in the garden can be used on all plants. Both infested vegetable or fruit plants as well as the blooming splendor can be freed from aphids and protected:

  • also helps against fungal infestation
  • also against powdery mildew on roses
  • on young, affected shoots
  • of fruit trees
  • shrubs
  • perennial plants
  • all places where aphids sit
Idea: To increase the scent of the roses in spring, you can also stick several cloves of garlic into the ground around the plants.
