Propagating scrunchie from cuttings is very easy to do if you follow the right steps. In any case, it is important that the correct procedure is followed and that patience is maintained.

offshoot
The offshoots are so-called children, i.e. small plants that grow next to the mother plant. They are connected to the mother plant via roots until they are separated from her.
In order for offshoots to develop, three factors must be met:
- sufficient space and substrate
- enough nutrients
- time
The plants only develop after several years and with sufficient space in the planter. Therefore, you should choose a much larger pot than before every time you repot. In addition, a regular change of substrate and sufficient fertilization are of crucial importance for the development of offshoots.
Utils
Some utensils are required for the propagation of the bow hemp. These are:
- planters
- sand or clay granules
- permeable potting soil
- Knife or scissors with sharp edges
manual
Propagating scrunchie via cuttings is comparatively quick and easy if you keep the following guide in mind:
- Once the children have reached a height of at least five centimetres, they can be separated from the mother plant. A height of five to 15 centimeters is ideal. If the young plants are smaller, the root mass is still too small. If they are significantly higher, the separation becomes more difficult.
- With the appropriate height of the Kindel, repotting can be used to separate the young plants from the mother plant. Repotting in spring is ideal.
- For this purpose, the plant is removed from the pot and freed from the substrate. The roots can be rinsed to completely remove the old soil from the roots.
- With a clean and ideally disinfected knife or scissors, the roots of the offshoot are cut as close as possible to the mother plant. The young Sansevieria gets comparatively long and many roots right from the start, which means that the supply is better.
- To reduce the risk of rot, the cut roots should be allowed to air dry for a few hours. If the cut surfaces on the roots are dry, you can insert the cuttings and mother plant into the soil and moisten the substrate.
After propagation, the children are cared for in the same way as the mother plant was before. The site conditions should also be chosen appropriately.
alternatives
Alternatives to the propagation of Sansevieria by Kindel are seeds and cuttings. However, some luck is required for the development of seeds, because these only form after several years and even then often not every year.
It is significantly quicker and easier to obtain cuttings from an adult plant. To do this, one of the outer leaves is cut off just above the ground in spring. At a distance of five centimeters at a time, cut the sheet lengthwise into smaller pieces. With the lower half of the cut, these pieces are inserted one to three centimeters deep into the ground. The substrate is then slightly moistened.
It is important with this variant that you pay attention to the right direction. Because only the lower cut surface of the cuttings can form roots. If the cutting is pressed into the substrate in the wrong direction, this variant of propagation will not be successful.
