Curbs can be used in a variety of ways around the home and garden. In order for them to reliably fulfill their task, they have to be set correctly. Our instructions explain how easy it is to do this with screed concrete.

materials and tools
Before actually setting the kerbstones in screed concrete, gather all the material and have it ready at the place of use. This gives you a good overview that everything you need is available. In addition, there are no interruptions for the search or procurement of missing things. are necessary:
- Curbs, usually made of concrete
- Screed concrete, either in sacks for mixing or ready-to-use from the concrete factory
- fabric tarpaulin
- spade
- shovel
- Kelle
- bucket or concrete tub
- Ground needles and guideline, alternatively stable sticks and tear-resistant cord
- Hammer / Rubber hammer
Step 1 – Prepare and Align
Before you set the first stone, determine the exact position of the curbs.
- Dig out the soil about 30 centimeters wide and then place it on the side on fabric tarpaulin
- Choose the excavation depth depending on the concrete elements: Curb height from the planned upper edge plus at least 5 centimeters
- After excavation, mark out the exact course of the curb with earth needles and a plumb line
- Align the guide line horizontally and set the height of the ground pins to the planned upper edge
Step 2 – The Concrete
After the foundation trench has been created and the course of the stone has been determined, it is now time to place the concrete.
- Remove loose soil from the base of the foundation trench, alternatively tamp down
- Mix the screed concrete according to the instructions on the sack
- Pour concrete into the base of the foundation with a shovel
- Width of the concrete strand around 25 to 30 centimeters
- Filling level approx. 10 to 15 centimeters (correspondingly more if the trench depth is more than 5 centimeters below the lower edge of the stone)
Step 3 – Set the curbs
Once all the preparations have been completed, move the individual kerbstone elements one after the other into the prepared foundation trench.
- Align the first edge stone horizontally using the guide line, insert into the concrete screed and press down slightly
- Check position and correct if necessary
- Knock the stone evenly down into the concrete with a rubber mallet until the top edge is flush with the plumb line
- proceed with further stones in the same way as the first edge stone
Step 4 – The finishing touches
Now that your curb is in the desired position, you can complete the work in a few simple steps.
- Form lateral concrete with a trowel towards the edge stone, ascending to the valley
- use additional concrete if necessary
- Lead the groove up the side of the curb at least 5 centimeters
- Allow the concrete to harden according to the manufacturer’s instructions
- Fill in and compact soil stored on the side
